Homecare: helping our local councils to understand what needs to change…
In our first ‘in-person’ event after lockdown restrictions eased, we brought together people who receive home care, relatives, unpaid carers, and workers from Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea Councils for a workshop on improving local home care services.
Our workshop was the latest in our ‘Living Your Best Life’ series. Over the past few months, we’ve been having conversations with local people from across our communities in Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea about what ‘living your best life’ means to them, home care services, and how they can be supported to live the lives they want.
Through these conversations, people have told us what is important to them in their lives, what they value and appreciate in their routines, and what they would like from home care services in the future.
In our latest workshop, we invited people who receive home care, relatives, and unpaid carers to come together and discuss what we had heard so far. The event gave participants the chance to feedback on whether our early conversations resonated with them. It also gave local people the opportunity to share their voice on home care services with workers from Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea Councils.
The workshop was our first in-person event after lockdown restrictions eased earlier this year. After over a year and a half, we were finally able to speak to people physically once again. It was a welcome return, and lovely to see some familiar faces.
We recognise that many members of our communities are not yet able to attend physical meetings. Our workshop was a hybrid event, and many people also joined us virtually from home. Ensuring that our events are accessible to all is a priority for us; as we adapt to living with COVID-19, we will continue to make our events accessible and inclusive for people who cannot join us in person.
The next event in our ‘Living Your Best Life’ series will see us meet with Councillors and other members of staff from Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea Councils. We will be speaking to them about what local people have told us so far, and what those who receive care, their relatives, and unpaid carers have told us about how home care services need to change and improve.
Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea Councils are currently reviewing how home care services are delivered. Our work with local people on this topic will be used to inform decisions on how home care services are changed for the future.
