Every year, Learning Disability week is about raising awareness, challenging stereotypes and celebrating the lives of people with a learning disability in our society.
This year’s Learning Disability Week, which runs from the 18th till the 24th of June, is all about health, tying in with Mencap’s latest campaign, Treat me well, which aims to transform how the NHS treats people with a learning disability in hospital.
Throughout the week there will be local events taking place across England with people with a learning disability and hospital staff. Local hospitals include:
- Hammersmith Hospital
- Charing Cross Hospital
- Royal Brompton Hospital
- St Mary’s Hospital
- St Thomas’ Hospital
To learn more about Learning Disability Week and for a guide on how to plan an event in your local hospital in support of the week, visit the Mencap website.
The 21st of June is National Selfie Day. People who work or volunteer at hospitals are asked to share a selfie of them at work with hashtag #TreatMeWell and #LDWeek18 to spread the word about Learning Disability Week.
