The Hammersmith & Fulham Disabled People’s Commission, was set up and funded by Hammersmith & Fulham Council, asking a group of 10 disabled residents to produce recommendations on how to remove the barriers disabled people face in the borough.
The commission’s report “Nothing About Disabled People Without Disabled People” was published and presented to the council at the end of 2017. All of its recommendations were agreed to by the council.
Importantly, the commission recommended that disabled people and their user-led organisations should be enabled to work with the council to ‘identify, design, and evaluate, policy decisions and service delivery.’
The report has been welcomed by the Disability News Service, who has written about it in their article Pioneering commission of disabled people sets council on path to true co-production.
The commission’s report will be officially launched in June 2018.
